LLC: What is your secret productivity tip?

ES: Well, that would be a habit that has traveled with me since high school. Back then I used to plan by day in a Franklin Covey. I would make a list of everything I wanted to accomplish in a 12 month period, then break it down into months, weeks, and micro it down to days. It helped me multitask, and stay focused. This is a habit that I continue, only now I map my day digitally.

LLC: What’s the first thing you do when you get out of bed?

ES: I used to roll over and grab my cell phone to check my emails, and messages. But that was a bad habit that has since been changed. Now I wake up, pray/meditate, then say good morning to my family before rushing into my day. That one tweak in my life has changed my level of balance immensely.

LLC: What’s your favorite thing to eat that gives you energy?

ES: My newest discovery is the healing power of juicing. Funny enough, my husband is a health nut and had been trying to get me to do it for years. Fruits and vegetables really DO have natural healing power. Not only do I look better, but I feel better as well.

LLC: How often do you squeeze a workout into your life? What's your favorite form of exercise?

ES: Goodness…. Honestly, not enough. In my dreams, I work out twice a day but in real life I am lucky if I get one to two work outs per week. Weights and Zumba are my workout of choice.

LLC: Tell us about your relationship with your smart phone? Do you ever shut it off? Do you sleep with it next to your bed?

ES: My phone is literally my virtual office. So yes, we have a close relationship! LOL! I have resolved not to pick my phone up while I am driving AT ALL. I also won’t answer my phone before 9:30am and will not touch it after 9:30 pm. Those are very long business hours and there is no need for me to do business thereafter. We need to unplug from the madness. As a society, we are consuming TOO much information. There really is a such thing as telecommunication overload.

LLC: How do you deal with email?

ES: I answer them as often and as fast as I can.

LLC: What’s your favorite technology or app that helps you stay organized?

ES: I like “My Fitness Pal”… It allows me to keep a log of what I am eating daily, as well as the calories and nutrients I am consuming.

LLC: What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?

ES: Some of the best advice I have ever been given related to career and finances. As I started in my radio career twenty years ago, another radio personality warned me of the volatility in the business. The advice was “Have a plan A, B & C, and work them at the same time!”

LLC: What song lifts you up in any situation and makes you feel limitless?

ES: “Des’ree- You Gotta Be” and Tye Tribbett “If He Did It Before”

LLC: Share a quote that helps you stay grounded …

ES: “Your talent may get you there, but it is your CHARACTER that will keep you.”

LLC: Name a book that changed your life and why?

ES: There is a little book called “The Game of Life and How To Play It” by Florence Scovel Schinn. The book is an easy read and you can get through it in two hours. It is jam packed with time transcending life lessons and additives. I first read the book when I was in college, but have read it several times since then as a reminder.

LLC: What is your philosophy for dealing with failure and overcoming obstacles in life?

ES: I don’t believe in failure. I believe in missteps and important lessons that needed to be learned. Not succeeding the first time out is an organic part of the process. That’s where we earn our stripes, and become BATTLE TESTED. So there is no failure in living the process. The only failure comes when we refuse to try again, or allow the irrational “FEAR of Failure” to consume us.

LLC: What's your best tip for balancing work, family and personal relationships?

ES: Have a system or support and know that it’s okay to have help and lean on someone else when necessary. I have not accomplished anything in my life ALONE…. not only is that boring, but it’s also a lot harder than if we developed support teams to aid us along the way. At home, my husband is my partner. At work, I have other partners or consultants in my various endeavors. The key is showing gratitude to your team. Value those people and relationships and guard them.

LLC: What is your definition of a limitless life?

ES: Leading a limitless life is using the history of our existence, the pain of what we’ve endured, the light with which we were born, and the gift of which we were bestowed and allowing it to LIFT us to our highest level of existence. Knowing that opposition exists, but having the audacity to move forward anyway. It is allowing vulnerability and insecurity no room to consume us, but harnessing that energy to propel us to a greater level of success.

LLC: What’s your spirit animal?

ES: My spirit animal is a Tiger. The Tiger emphasizes raw feelings and emotions. It has patience to wait for the right opportunity, but does not hesitate to leap when it comes. The Tiger spirit animal symbolizes primal instincts, unpredictability, and the confidence to trust yourself.

LLC: What is your definition of a limitless life?

KB: Living a life of authenticity, giving back, showing up and being intentional, serving, leading with love and knowing the Power of Other!

LLC: What’s the first thing you do when you get out of bed?

KB: Pray for clarity, direction and covering. Breathe, to get the oxygen to my brain and body. Stretch- to wake up my body for the day. Meditate, clear my head and thoughts and usher in light and positive thoughts.

LLC: What’s your favorite thing to eat that gives you energy?

KB: Green tea! Green tea has anti-oxidants the body needs for energy and mental clarity.

LLC: How often do you squeeze a workout into your life? What’s your favorite form?

KB: I don’t squeeze in a work it- I am INTENTIONAL about a healthy lifestyle. I work out about 4 days a week with a trainer. Kick boxing is my favorite. It allows me to de stress while toning.

LLC: Tell us about your relationship with your smart phone? Do you shut it off? Do you sleep with it next to your bed?

KB: Its pretty dysfunctional! Lol I rely on it for everything! It’s the way I stay connected. It is a necessary evil. I have; however, created “no phone zones” when something needs my attention. Spending time with family, meetings, or my “me time” are all “no phone zones”. It is never turned off; however, I have placed it in the drawer and only check it a few times a day if I need to focus on something.

LLC: How do you deal with email?

KB: Responsiveness is key to me. I check emails all day and respond instantly if I have the info needed. If not, I always provide a courtesy response of “I have received this, let me get back to you”. Email jail is no fun. Staying on top of email will eliminate hours of going back and trying to catch up and it shortens your to do list.

LLC: What's your secret productivity tip?

KB: Eat the elephant first. Knock out big projects, those things you dread doing, or that demand a big chunk of your time. Say NO. I always ask, “ IS this an opportunity or a distraction” If it’s a distraction, It doesn’t get done. Delegate because there is power in it!

LLC: What technology or app was a game changer for you?

KB: An app called Sloth. It allows you to time your activities.

LLC: What's the best advice you’ve ever been given?

KB: The rent we pay on earth is serving others.

LLC: What song(s) make you feel limitless?

KB: Jill Scott- Living my life like its Golden, Mary J Blige- Fine, Mary Mary- It’s the God in me

KB: Work life balance is a myth. I believe in prioritizing. Organize your life into 3-4 main buckets. And again, ask yourself is this an “opportunity or a distraction?”
